Anticipating the new Gorillaz album

Gorillaz new album releases on Friday (...and we're excited!)
By: Carvo Music and Nadya Nataly

The new Gorillaz album, Humanz,  is set to drop this week, Friday, April 28. This project comes after seven years from the release of albums The Fall and Plastic Beach. What we've heard so far, these must be tracks worked on though the years since their last release, Plastic Beach in 2010. It keeps up with the Gorillaz mantra of storytelling through song.

Each song has an optimistic view on very negative thoughts. "Ascension" is an example of this featuring California native Vince Staples, reminding of a new version of their single, "Dirty Harry" from their Demon Days 2005 release. The songs released are very upbeat. Even when they take a more subdued/ relaxed view on their song, "Andromeda." This time the song speaks of a lover being as far as andromeda and remembering that love by instructing to "take it in your heart now lover". Featuring supporting vocals by D.R.A.M., the feeling is euphoric when thinking of past lovers.

At first listen, "Saturnz Barz (Spirit House)", the Reggae/Grime/Hip Hop fusion featuring Jamaican artist , Popcaan with the Gorillaz lead singer, Damon Albarn voice makes this track erie. This song tackles the struggles of every person that aspires to make a better life from them selves. Be it a bath, a nap, and slice of cake or having the time to enjoy a record. The video portrays the Gorillaz in an old haunted house being lured in by these temptations then taunted by their worst fears.

Another rap influenced song features Virginia rapper Pusha T and soulful singer Mavis "Mama Mavis" Staples speaks of wanting a better quality of life. "Let Me Out" asks the question, "Is there a better life for me?" or "Will I ever have the opportunity to live in that life?"

Overall, This album Humanz shapes up to be a rich thin line with the albums of before. A journey through everyday struggles while finding the time to love and survive.  Though we've only caught glimpses of the 20-track album, Humanz also features songs with Jehnny Beth (Savages), Danny Brown, Benjamin Clementine, De La Soul, Peven Everett, Anthony Hamilton, Grace Jones, Zebra Katz, Kelela, Jamie Principle and Kali Uchis.

There's something to be celebrated with the release of this Humanz. The previously released five songs tap into the core of being alive during a time period of political, emotional and controversial angst. Through the infusion of genres and multiple artist contributions Humanz gives fans the "je ne sais quoi" Gorillaz experience. Anxiously, we await for the official release date to indulge on a unique musical journey.
